Terms of use
Terms of use
Homecode publishes evidence and guidance, not surveys, quotes or contracts. Safety-critical work needs a qualified professional.
Who these terms cover
These terms apply to your use of Homecode, the website published at sortmyhouse.co.uk. Homecode is the public name of that site; the domain is its production address. The pages are written for people using the site from the United Kingdom.
If you do not accept these terms, do not use the site.
What this site is
Homecode publishes evidence, explanations and cautious tools. A page may show a published record, a worked example or a pre-screen. That material is here to help you ask a better question of a qualified person, not to stand in for that person.
What this site is not
Nothing on this site is a professional inspection, survey, valuation, design, specification or safety certificate. Nothing on this site is an offer, a quotation or a contract to carry out work. Displayed figures are not a price at which anyone has agreed to do a job for you.
Official datasets can be incomplete, out of date or wrong for the property in front of you. Where a record is missing, Homecode leaves it missing. You should not treat silence, an “unavailable” state or a modelled figure as proof that a risk is absent.
Safety-critical work
If a job could affect gas, electricity, structure, fire safety, water hygiene or anyone’s health, you must use a suitably qualified professional. That includes, where the law requires it, a Gas Safe registered engineer or a competent electrical installer.
Guidance on this site does not authorise you to skip that requirement. If you are unsure, stop and get advice from a person who is allowed to do the work.
Accuracy and availability
We take care with sources and with saying when something is unknown. We do not warrant that the site is complete, current or suitable for a particular decision. The site may be withdrawn, changed or temporarily unavailable without notice.
Third-party sites linked from Homecode, including shop destinations, have their own terms. A shop link is not a recommendation of every product on that destination and is not an independent review of the whole market.
Your use of the site
Use the site lawfully. Do not try to overload the lookup tools, scrape them in a way that evades the published rate limits, or present Homecode material as a certified survey or as your own professional advice.
You may share a link to a page. You may not copy the site in bulk for a competing service without permission.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Homecode is not liable for loss that follows from relying on the site instead of a qualified inspection, a written quote or an official certificate. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that UK law does not allow to be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
Changes
We may update these terms when the site changes. The review date at the bottom of this page is the date this wording was last checked. Continued use after a change is acceptance of the updated terms.
