Choosing guide
How should you choose electricity-use monitors?
Read-only and plug-through devices can record indicative use without altering fixed services or proving an electrical fault.

How to choose
- Decide whether the question concerns one ordinary plug-in appliance or an existing supplier-installed whole-home display.
- Check rated voltage, current, load and permitted appliance types, including any restrictions on heaters or cycling loads.
- Compare sampling interval, cumulative records, local display, export, privacy and behaviour after power or connectivity loss.
What it cannot establish
- Existing supplier, smart-meter or appliance data may already answer a simple use question.
- An indicative monitor cannot reproduce a supplier bill exactly, establish circuit capacity or identify an electrical fault.
You may not need this product if…
- An existing device or a simple record already answers the decision you need to make.
- You need a one-off professional assessment rather than repeat observations.
- Using the product would move beyond the stated safety boundary.
